Department Approved Laptops

Do you need a laptop? There are a limited number of laptops available to be loaned to students in need while enrolled in a Computer and Information Science course.
Submit this form to request a laptop.

In order to successfully complete work in Computer and Information Science courses at Allegheny College, students will need a laptop capable of running docker. Compatible laptops must run one of the following operating systems: Linux; macOS 11 or newer; or Windows 10 or 11 64-bit. See the sections below for more details.

Linux

Any 64-bit version of a recently released Linux distribution should work. See the official documentation for a full list of supported platforms.

Mac

  • macOS version 11 or newer, it is recommended to run the latest release
  • At least 4 GB of RAM

Windows

  • WSL version 1.1.3.0 or above
  • Windows 10 64-bit: Home, Pro, Enterprise, or Education version 21H2 or higher
  • Windows 11 64-bit: Home, Pro, Enterprise, or Education version 21H2 (build 19044) or higher
  • Enable the WSL 2 feature on Windows
  • At least 4 GB of RAM
